Firstly, if you are eager to jump straight in and explore the catalogue either use the QUICK SEARCH drop downs at the top of the page, or click the ADVANCED SEARCH tab to do more detailed filtering.
N.B. Don't forget to check the NEWS section at the bottom of this page.
For licensing novices, check the HELP tab as this has useful information and resources.
For some background and context of exactly what this site can do and what we are trying to achieve, read on...
This site is aimed at music supervisors, advertising agencies, record companies, broadcasters and in fact any and all music users who are interested in exploring what Ace Records' catalogue could do for your projects.
Please dive in and explore the search facilities. We've tried to add useful search criteria such as tempo, instrumental or vocal, year. genre and even instrument. The database of tracks will grow and MP3s will be added as we do them.
You will see TOP TRACKS highlighted in your search results. These are tracks we think you should definitely not ignore in the search criteria you have specified. Either because they are top drawer choises, or because they are greatly underused hidden jems long overdue for an airing.
You will also see ONE STOP SHOP as an option in the ADVANCED SEARCH publisher's field. This indicates Ace controls the publishing as well as the master recording and means we are able to license both.
Please involve us as early as possible if you are searching for tracks. We will be able to guide you as to which specific labels, artists and tracks you should concentrate on.
For music to work alongside visuals, we have a lot of experience of picking tracks according to your brief and can supply you with a short list and MP3s very quickly.
Even better if you have a Quicktime file ready to go, send it over to us so we can demo the track on top of the video.
It's important to comment on what tracks are actually available here:
The big difference between this Licensing section of the web site and the main Ace site is that the main site shows everything Ace Records *releases*. Note the stress on the word releases, as this by no means indicates that Ace *owns* all of those recordings. Many of the CDs on the main site are licensed in from other record companies. We have the right to release the CDs, sure, but unfortunately not to sub license the recordings on to you. Hence the existence of these Licensing sub pages.
Ace started off as Chiswick Records in the mid 1970s - at the time Ace signed many artists and owns recordings from that era. As Chiswick moved into the 80s, it became Ace Records, and started purchasing many US labels (and continues to do so to this day).
The original recordings Ace made as well as the catalogues we purchased form the basis of the records we *can* license.
At this point it is worth pointing out that we are talking only about master recordings, not publishing. We do own some publishing - see ONE STOP SHOP above.
N.B. For a detailed look at master rights vs publishing rights, go to the Help tab.
